I bought The TANK

Published by awesometbn on Tagged Trombone Festivals

At the ITF 2008 in Utah, I went to the third floor exhibitor room for Shires, and while looking around in the same room I saw a sturdy trombone case made by Diversified Case Company in the Slidebone.com exhibitor space. I shipped my softside Reunion Blues gigbag to the hotel with UPS so it would be there when I arrived on Tuesday. It is a double case that holds my alto and tenor trombones. Perfect for hanging over your shoulder and walking. So at the end of the festival I was prepared to find a UPS Store or FedEx and ship it home (easier than dealing with the airlines). That is, until I saw this masterpiece from Diversified.

Their double case carefully fits my alto and tenor, with plenty of snug-fitting foam, cut-out in the shape of each bell section and slide assembly. I had already set aside more than $300 for shipping home, so I applied that money to this purchase. What about my softside gigbag? Slidebone shipped that to my home as a courtesy! Thanks! So I can happily report all the rough handling from Frontier Airlines did not dent my horn at all (I have a whole other story to tell about Delta Airlines and my crimpled bell on my Bach 42). So if you are considering The TANK, get one, you won’t be disappointed.

Trying to reach TTF

Published by awesometbn on Tagged Trombone Festivals

During the International Trombone Festival 2008 in Utah I made a post on The Trombone Forum about technology and the trombone after attending a workshop by Robin Eubanks. Later that night, Robin performed on the evening concert, and I wanted to update my post or at least add some comments. Didn’t have a chance to do that until yesterday, but guess what, the Trombone Forum timed out, it wouldn’t connect. Must be my connection. Always seems to happen when I’m travelling. So I tried again from Atlanta. No luck. Then I saw some news reports about an explosion at The Planet datacenter in Texas. Could this be the reason? I checked whois and sure enough TTF uses The Planet. I’ll bet this is the reason. Hopefully everything will be okay once they run power to the disconnected servers, and the data loss will be minimal. The Planet has their own forum with updates about the fire and the work they are doing to get everybody up and running.

Just got back from ITF 2008 in Utah

Whew!  Long trip from Salt Lake City to Atlanta.  Flew on Frontier Airlines to their hub in Denver, on the way there and back.  It was an amazing conference.  Tried to get there ahead of time on Tuesday, but with the time change and slight travel delays we arrived pretty much around midnight.  The festival was a blast!  I’m unpacking and trying to organize my thoughts.  More to come.

Newspaper Headlines from around the World

Okay, this should be interesting. This is my experiment with viral video (meaning that if something becomes wildly popular we now have an easy method in place to quickly distribute that particular video, it’s called the “embed” button). I have partnered with multiple news organizations to provide updated stories that seem to be related to the trombone. These news organizations include Reuters, The Associated Press (AP), Agence France Press (AFP), The Denver Post, The Sports Network, and many others. At this time I am able to grab their video feeds, but I am still working on getting text articles by themselves. I’ll update this section when they become available. In the meantime enjoy the following reports.
