This is the index page for reaching our trombone links and explanations. Ongoing updates. Learn more about our efforts with ODP, DMOZ, OMP, OEP, About.com, ITA, and Alexa, including the notorious collection of ancient data from our humble beginnings.

Open Directory Project

Trombones in the Open Directory Project

Originally the concept of Awesome Trombone Links was just compiling a huge list of trombone links from the around Internet. Now all efforts are being poured into creating a central location for trombone links that can be used as the source data for search engines. This is called the Open Directory Project from Netscape.

The Open Directory Project is the largest, most comprehensive human-edited directory of the Web. It is constructed and maintained by a vast, global community of volunteer editors. You can start exploring the Internet and your trombone research by visiting these trombone pages. My editor name is awesometbn. I collect bookmarks along the way to adding and reviewing links for the Open Directory Project.

Open Music Project

Based around the Open Directory editing model, MusicMoz aims to be a comprehensive directory of music, built by volunteers around the world, with contributions from the web public. MusicMoz and many of its features were inspired by the Open Directory Project. MusicMoz also uses Open Directory Project data, which any site may do providing they display the correct attribution. MusicMoz is not affiliated with Netscape, although many of our volunteer editors also edit at the Open Directory Project.

Right now, I am preparing MusicMoz as a direct sync with the Open Directory Project. Later this year (2003) that will probably change, because at MusicMoz I can treat each trombone artist individually to provide a detailed and cross-referenced profile.

Open Encyclopedia Project

I am an editor for another sister web site of the Open Directory Project called Open-Site, the Open Encyclopedia Project (sometimes called the Open Site Project). The Open Encyclopedia Project is based on the work of the volunteer editors, who are dedicated to building and developing the data included in it. Their purpose is to build the most comprehensive place with information dedicated to the Internet community, and to share this information back to the Internet users.

About.com Trombone Expert

About.com Trombone Expert

During 2002 I was working with Jake Sibley, Musicians’ Exchange guide at About.com, to be listed as an Instrument Expert for Trombone. About.com Instrument Experts act as human guides to the vast Internet resources on all major instruments. The Experts are available to personally answer questions for Musicians’ Exchange readers. Use the links below to find more trombones on one of the ten busiest properties found on the entire Internet, About.com!

International Trombone Association

The ITA webmaster, Joshua Brown, had an opening for web assistant. I applied for it and was offered the position. I plan to help the ITA with their link directories, affiliate programs, and pretty much anything else the webmaster needs. The International Trombone Association is the largest association of trombonists with 4500 members from 50 countries. Formed in 1972, ITA is a registered non-profit organization and our mission is to promote the trombone and all trombone-related activities across the world.

Local copy of DMOZ

Here is a copy of the data from the Open Directory Project. As part of the license agreement I have included the Open Directory Attribution HTML code on each of these pages.

Local Copy of Original Pages

Don’t get upset about these next pages being out of date, but here are the ancient pages from the old servers that used to house the original Awesome Trombone Links. These have not been updated on purpose because they are just being used temporarily as a reference to the old URLs. Be aware that a majority of these links probably do not work any longer. Soon all of these pages will be taken down and simply replaced with the data from the Open Directory Project.
